Overview

The church of Timios Prodromos is built in 1860 and is located in the "Pera Gitonia". It is of the basilica style with a tiled roof, measuring 100 feet long and 25 feet wide. It distinguishes itself as the only church of this style in Cyprus with such a length. The courtyard of the church, built with local stone, is wide and spacious. In 1990, two stone-lined fountains were built, one to the east and the other to the west of the courtyard. The Ecclesiastical & Folklore Museum and the Olive Mill are located in the courtyard of the church. It is celebrated solemnly where the procession of the holy icon of Agios Ioannis the Baptist takes place on 29 August.
